Care Instructions
Our rugs are designed for real life — soft, safe, and made with 100% natural fibers. To keep them looking beautiful for years to come, follow these simple care instructions.
General Care & Maintenance
- Vacuum regularly using a low-powered, non-rotary vacuum without a beater brush to remove dust and prevent dirt from settling.
- Shake out your rug occasionally to clear loose fibers and fluff it up.
- Rotate your rug periodically to ensure even wear over time.
- Use a rug pad to extend the life of your rug, minimize shedding, and prevent slipping.
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure to maintain the rug’s natural colors.
Machine Washing
Because our rugs are made with pure, natural fibers, they require gentle care when washed.
- Use a front-loading washing machine or a washer without a center agitator to prevent damage to the rug’s fibers.
- Wash separately on a delicate, cold cycle (maximum 86°F / 30°C).
- Use a mild, natural detergent — avoid bleach, fabric softeners, or harsh chemicals.
- For larger rugs (5’x8’ and above), use a commercial-size washer (typically found at a laundromat) to prevent overloading.
- It's normal to see some fluff in the washing machine after a wash. This will decrease over time as the fibers naturally settle.
Drying Instructions
- Tumble dry on low heat or air dry flat.
- Do not leave the rug in the washer after the cycle finishes, as color bleeding may occur.
- To refresh texture, gently shake out the rug once dry or fluff it with a vacuum.
Spot Cleaning & Stain Removal
- Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth or paper towel — never rub, as this can push the stain deeper.
- For stubborn stains, use a small amount of mild detergent diluted in water and blot gently.
- For pet accidents, act quickly — blot, rinse with clean water, and blot again. Wool’s natural lanolin makes it stain-resistant, but urine can damage fibers if left untreated.
Shedding: What to Expect
- Shedding is completely normal for natural fiber rugs and will gradually decrease over time.
- Lightly vacuum or sweep in the direction of the weave to help manage shedding.
- If you find a long thread, never pull it — simply trim it with scissors.
With these simple steps, your Sage & Wild rug will stay soft, beautiful, and ready for every adventure, cozy moment, and messy masterpiece.
